1st MAY 2011
Information
Now in its third successful year, the "SEStran Megacycle" is a is a non-competitive all-abilities cycling event, that aims to promote cycling for health and as a form of transportation. The Megacycle is also sponsoring the Sick Kids Friends Foundation charity but you are welcome to raise money for the charity of your choice, or simply to enjoy the ride as a fun day out. .Over 350 participants took up the challenge of this 20 mile family cycle ride from Penicuick, Midlothian to the shores of the Firth of Forth in East Lothian last year and we hope to attract even greater numbers in 2011.
Organizer, Quintin Young, swears the route is "almost all downhill" and easily achievable with the minimum of effort. Transport for bikes and riders is available from Musselburgh Racecourse car park both before and after the event.
The SEStran Megacycle aims to :
- Encourage people to take up cycling for increased health and as a form of transport for shorter journeys.
- Promote cycling as a means of contributing towards reduced traffic congestion and CO2 emissions, as part of a sustainable transport strategy for SE Scotland.
- Increase awareness of the network of cycle paths available in Midlothian.
- Increase Midlothian's profile on the tourism map of SE Scotland.
- Benefit the Sick Kids charity.
Registration is through the website www.SEStran-megacycle.co.uk and potential entrants are asked to register as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
